500px is an online Canadian photography community utilized by photographers all over the world. 500px was founded by Oleg Gutsol and Evgeny Tcheboratev. Oleg , was the creator of LiveJournal and while earning his degree in school partnered up with Evgeny to create the first version of 500px.
Nearly every legitimate photographer in the world has a 500px account and naturally I have one as well. Most photographers I talked to told me that they joined 500px because it was not as heavily censored as Facebook or Google+ etc.
500px broad appeal can mostly be attributed to a combination of positives that made it such a natural choice for most photographers to join. While the name may lead you to believe that the largest image you may post is 500px? That is just a name only because the main images are much larger.
Each image submitted to 500px is voted upon by their peers and those votes are tabulated to give the photographer a general idea on how their images are being viewed in the form of a “pulse score”. The pulse score basically tallies the amount of views and the amount of “likes” an image has and uses this data as the backbone for the photographers “pulse score”, the higher the score the better the image, and the greater the placement of that image within its vast social media frame-work.
